Its users, known as “likes,” post a number of photos and videos and the social network lets advertisers target the content they post.
Instagram has over a billion monthly active users, according to research firm Kantar Media.
Instagram also has a social media presence that includes more than 140 million followers on Facebook.
The social media giant, which is based in Menlo Park, California, has more than 100 million users and has more paid and ad revenue than any other U.S. company.
Facebook said it had nearly $3 billion in revenue in the third quarter of this year.
Instagram’s revenue growth has slowed.
In its most recent quarter, Instagram reported a 9% decline in revenue.
Facebook has a $2 billion cash reserve that it uses to fund investments and investments in new businesses.
