Facebook will continue to focus on its core mission of connecting users with friends and family, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday.
Facebook will continue using social networking as a way to connect people with friends, said Zuckerberg in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
But it will be increasingly focused on new ways to create and share content and reach a broader audience.
“We’re going to do things differently and use some different things to connect with people,” Zuckerberg said.
“We will do things that make it easier to share stuff, to see people in a new way.”
Zuckerberg’s comments came just hours after Facebook said it had shut down several of its social networking sites, including Instagram and WhatsApp.
The social networking company said it was working to build a new platform that would make it possible for people to connect more easily with friends.
It also said it will make it harder for businesses to target ads to users who use its platforms.
The social network will launch new tools and apps, including the first of a series of “shared” features that will allow users to share content directly from one site to another, Zuckerberg said in an emailed statement.
The company has made a number of changes to its advertising and advertising platform to improve its user experience and improve its business.
The Facebook-owned company said in December that it would start a new “advertising ecosystem” that will offer advertisers more targeted advertising targeting on Facebook, as well as more options for publishers to monetize their ads.
Facebook also said at the time it was looking to expand its advertising platform, which has already grown to more than two billion users.
