Ever been in the middle of a critical phone call and wished you had just a bit more power? Imagine that you are driving down a snowy highway, you will reach your home in about 10 miles but the visibility is getting worse. Something happens and the car stalls. You manage to pull over to the side, but the car is dead. What’s worse is the electric system is not working.
You pull out your phone and you realize it is almost out of power. What can you do in this kind of circumstance?
But actually we don’t have to imagine something so dire to understand the need for this product. Many of us use our phones extensively during the day, and we can’t always be sure exactly how much charge we will need. That’s fine on normal days, but on those occasions where you have an important call to finish or you are late to meet someone and your phone is near the end of it’s battery or it is completely out of juice… it’s really frustrating.
The unique solution?
GOkey is a very small beautifully designed and lightweight device that can sit on your key ring naturally. On normal occasions you can use it to snap a selfie because it serves as a bluetooth remote for your phone.
Because it is designed to attach to your key ring, you can use the app on your phone to locate your keys. The GOkey will make a sound. If instead you have your keys in your pocket but you can’t find your phone, you can locate your phone by pressing the button on the GOkey.
The GOkey also serves as a USB storage device, so you can backup your files. It also serves as a charging and sync cable, so you can connect your computer to your phone through the GOkey’s built in USB adapter.
GOkey will charge your phone first, and then after your phone is charged, GOkey will charge itself.
What makes GOkey unique is that it is an emergency phone battery that is very small, sits on your key ring, and that will naturally charge every time you charge your phone. That’s important because other battery systems are too big, or they require “separate charging.”
Who are the makers behind GOkey?
Koros explained to us that he has learned a lot on this $1 Million+ crowd funding campaign. In the beginning he thought the best option was to hire outside experts as consultants. He set up a team of consultants in San Francisco. Everyone was excited.
Koros started to see problems. The biggest one was lack of accountability. Since everyone was an expert in their own field, it was hard to create that shared sense or responsibility. It was an expensive and time consuming lesson.
Koros decided that he needed a different approach. He packed up his bags and headed to China, where he assembled a team of full time staffs. Being together in one office, he can ensure that they are focused and working hard. Sometimes he sees them working until 10pm or later.
Koros knows the backers are excited to receive the product, and some are frustrated by the delays. It’s been a difficult process, and he has been in China for 5 months now.
Koros doesn’t just want to ship something. He would rather get the product right and make sure folks who receive it are happy.
