Parents spend thousands of dollars a year on babysitters. More importantly, even with a baby sitter they are still having to worry about the quality of care their child is getting.
What if there was a trusted network of neighborhood mothers, church moms, and your own relatives to which you could quickly post requests for babysitting?
The unique solution?
Instead of leaving your child with a babysitter, it would be much nicer if your child could be at the home of one the other moms from your neighborhood or church group.
This means that your child spends more time on play dates, which is often good developmentally for your child.
It also helps the mom who has your child over, since her children also benefit from having a friend over.
Komae is an app that you can use on your computer or your phone to add people into your trusted network.
After you have a network in place (which can be as small as just you and one friend), then you just post whenever you would like to have someone in your trusted network watch your child.
Komae provides a way to track who has provided babysitting service in their network. The more times you watch other people’s children, the more points you receive. When someone watches your children, some points are used.
The most important things about Komae are that it enables the trusted network that you already have. It saves money and it provides a higher quality of care.
Who are the makers?
Amy and Audrey are moms who wanted to improve the quality of care for their children during those times they needed babysitting.
After seeing the developmental benefit of having their children stay with another trusted family as much higher than just hiring an hourly babysitter, they went ahead and came up with Komae.
Amy and Audrey also felt that the money they saved on babysitting could go towards their children’s future educational funds, or even taking a family holiday together.
When you have so many friends with children in your neighborhood, playgroup, or church group… why not create a simple way to encourage play dates instead of wasting money on babysitters.
With a babysitter your child doesn’t benefit from spending time with one of their friends. Komae really wants to encourage more developmentally sound exchanges with other parents and their children that your child knows and that you trust.
No one that you don’t invite into your network can see any of your information.
What can crowdfunders learn from Komae?
Building an application such as Komae goes through phases. The first step is to identify the needs and core benefits that you want to provide. During this process you can create simple “wireframes.”
A wireframe is just a drawing of what the user would see without all the design elements. It can be done on a whiteboard or even on plain paper.
